How to Use the Photoshop Plugin to Encode and Read Images

22 November 2023

The Digimarc Barcode for Digital Images plug-in is a tool for encoding and reading images.

Note: This plug-in isn't compatible with Digimarc Validate. Our web-based enhancement tools provide a more robust experience. See My.Digimarc for more information.

  1. Download the Digimarc Barcode for Digital Images plug-in at Adobe Exchange. Follow the prompts to complete the download.

(Note: you must be signed into your user account with an active enterprise images subscription to access the images module.)

  1. After it's downloaded, the plug-in auto-installs in Photoshop. Depending on your system configuration, you may need to drag and drop the contents of the downloaded folder into the following path on your hard drive:

Note: {YEAR} is your version of Adobe Photoshop.

  1. Restart Photoshop.
  2. To apply a watermark, load an image into Photoshop and go to Filters > Digimarc > Embed Watermark.

Note: If the Digimarc filter is grayed out, make sure the image you loaded is in a supported color format. Go to Image > Mode and set the mode to RGB or CMYK Color and 8 Bits/Channel.

  1. On the Digimarc for Images screen, click Personalize.
  1. Enter your Digimarc ID and PIN to make sure your images are watermarked with your information.
